Okay, when I reread that book (I've only read it twice, which is unusual for me, only not so much anymore and I'll shut up about that now), the Doctor going off with the tigers made sense. 'Cos of his whole amnesia thing, and his whole alien thing, and his whole intense thing. In the confines of the book itself and in the context of what had happened previously in the series, it made sense.
However, Anji? No. She would never, ever trust him again.
As for the Eight/Karl thing and whether it's slash or just mutual love of the sensual music...dude. I've gotta get my definitions of what exactly "slash" *is* before I can go into that.
