Clearly I am procrastinating on all manner of things. Here is a meme.

from [livejournal.com profile] dossier:
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

You then take the pic and add your band name and the album title to it, then post your pic.

Memewhorage again: comment, and I ask you five questions, and you answer them, and post your answers to your journal.

questions asked by etben )

Title: Five Ex-Companions OR The Revelations Of Five People Who, In Their Respective Pasts, Travelled With The Doctor
Author: kbk
Fanda: DW crossovering with various. In this instance, Ivor The Engine, a series of children's books by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin.
Notes: [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey said I should do something random. This is very random, no? These books are probably one of the first memories I have: reading the bits in capital letters along with my Dad, when he read me a story at night. The first two paragraphs here are a direct lift from "The First Story". They give context. No, really. In that book, Ivor joins the choir. In subsequent books, Ivor helps several sheep, an elephant, a dragon and a fox. Ivor is a lovely engine.

Heh.
Memewhorage, got from [livejournal.com profile] alryssa, and I am attempting though I am whee whoa wibble:

Friday 21st April is COMMENT TO EVERYONE ON YOUR FRIENDSPAGE DAY.

The idea isn't necessarily to comment to every single post on your friendspage, but to comment at least once to each friend who posts that day. You don't need to comment on community posts to do the meme. It's just about exchanging a few words with the people you have friended when they post on that day.

Fridays are often kind of slow on LJ, so I thought it would be a nice meme to encourage more talking on a Friday!

And!

Title: Five Ex-Companions OR The Revelations Of Five People Who, In Their Respective Pasts, Travelled With The Doctor
Author: kbk
Fanda: DW crossovering with various. In this instance, House.

Eric Foreman )

Next, and last: a surprise. hah. [no, this isn't because I haven't quite decided yet. really!]
did title meme.

lj ate it.

care not.

uh, the only good one I can think of is Shatter, because the entire drabble was built to end on that word. and I kind of lost all enthusiasm for this process while htmling the previous attempt. so.

and realised that most of my titles are utter crap and was sitting apologising for them anyway. grr.
gacked from [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj

Of my fics... actually, I feel like I should have some sort of rating system for text and subtext and explicitness and length and... no. stop it, bitch.

twelve het - mostly in BtVS and mostly Buffy herself, oddly enough
seventeen boyslash - mostly in HP (H/D and R/S) though 'tis varied
four girlslash - Buffy/Buffybot, T'Pol/Hoshi, and extremely sub-textual others
thirteen non - though, uh, they probably have subtext too

Though that is by my reckoning and, uh, probably not reliable.

Anyone feel like checking my counting? (no, not pimping my fic at all...)

I actually didn't realise how much het I'd done. Wow. But I've done more slash. I ought to do more femslash, definitely. But I think I count as bitextual. I'm so happy.
am actually quite happy with this result, which is why I'm posting it

quiz )

am going to stop doing quizzes and do some work now. really. honest. I swear.
Really, really, really ought to be working.

Am playing instead.

Also: quiz )

Gah. I'm not even doing fic, which is almost semi-acceptable. I'm role-playing and reading and... gah. I really do need to do this thing, I need to have the presentation totally ready by Thursday noon, and we go off and give them this weekend and all the tutors keep saying how good the talks always are and I'm in so much trouble with this... aargh.
Friday Five

1. What is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)?

novels, probably. quite into poetry at the moment, but it's not so much of a long-term thing.

2. What is your favorite novel?

I have to pick one?
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. or possibly Crime And Punishment by Dostoyevsky. though both of them are quite pretentious, aren't they? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? Jane Eyre? um. can't think.

3. Do you have a favorite poem? (Share it!)

favourite of the moment is Fire and Ice, by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice

(my lack of punctuation - can't be bothered looking it up)
also quite partial to Cargoes (my mother's favourite) and various by Emily Dickinson, Rebecca Elson, Catullus... I'll stop now.

4. What is one thing you've always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read?

I have a couple of big novels that I haven't yet read - Vanity Fair and Anna Karenina - but I wouldn't say I'd always wanted to... 'cause I've read War and Peace and the Bible, and those are the two biggies, and... huh.

5. What are you currently reading?

re-reading LOTR. spending more time on fanfic than actual novels these days.

I give up. [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj told me to.

I do vary wildly in my tastes. musically, literately(?)... everything, I go from crap to good and old to new and... the nice word for me is "eclectic"
apology meme, not that I can really remember what I should be sorry for )

and this made me realise I hadn't posted my X-Files fic on my site, so that's now rectified. joy.

I was really supposed to be working, you know. I have to have made a reasonable attempt at my fifteen-minute talk on exoplanets for next Friday. And I have tut sheets to hand in and a program to write and... ee. I'd rather be doing this anyway.
test - good result, and I got it first time )

also - people liked my valentine challenge fic! people actually liked it! including the person it was for! I achieved.
am feeling cheerier now, thank goodness. however, am now worried about where we're going to live next year. joy...

quiz )

I'm writing, at the moment, a kind of stream-of-consciousness Krycek POV, which doesn't really have any point but seems to flow quite easily when it feels like it. So every now and then I'm sitting and staring at it and just... writing. I doubt it'll end up an actual fic, but it's quite fun. I guess I could call it a writing exercise, trying to get the character into focus for me, but it's... not, really. It's just my rambling fingers.

And there's no plot! But there's no porn either! And it's already nearly as long as chapter four of Winter which I practically sweated blood over, and which still has no reviews! *is annoyed*

hmm. what to do, what to do...

think I'm about written out for the evening, but I don't really feel like reading either, but I can't do nothing and I don't want to do anything and... eeeee. Guess the semi-cheeriness isn't going to last. Bugger.

Buffy Survey )

I'm going home today. I have to pack. I can't be bothered.

apart from that... nope. nothin' else to say. I don't think. um. well? no.
had exam

think I passed

was evil, though

is very cute kitten here. flatmate is looking after it for a little while, and it's currently going to sleep on top of my astro notes. so, there's an excuse not to study. it's a tortoiseshell, and it's two months old, and it's so fluffy and soft...

[livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj is cutting bits off my hair. her hair-cutting technique is, she says, "quite free-form" - meaning that she cannot cut hair in any way. she's also smoking at the same time.

I may shave my head later.

also, quizzes )
[livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj is a sick weirdo.

fortunately, I follow in her hallowed footsteps.

events meme )

and

Five RPS pairings you'd pay to see:

Tycho Brahe/Johannes Kepler: Astronomers. Brahe was a great observational astronomer, with astonishingly accurate results before the advent of the telescope, and Kepler worked as his assistant for some time. After Brahe's death, Kepler used the observations to back up his theory on the heliocentric nature of the solar system and the elliptical orbits of the planets

Genghis Khan/Marco Polo: well, they were on the same continent, at some time in the past...

"...Mary Carmichael and me": Two of "The Four Marys" from the ballad of that name - maids to Mary, Queen of Scots. The song is narrated by a Mary about to be put to death for theft. Not exactly historical figures, but...

Neil Armstrong/Buzz Aldrin: c'mon. don't you wanna?

Walt Whitman/Robert Frost: it would have to be a very pure sort of grandfather/grandchild thing, really, but sweet jeebus; the writing that would come out of that... I mean, Emily [Dickinson] and Rebecca [Elson] are still my faves, y'know, but they're, like, totally unslashable, and... just, man. see it.

so apparently nostalgia and I have somewhat different interests... hmm. *strokes chin thoughtfully*

so, even though it's now Saturday, because I slept through three-quarters of Friday, I'm doing the Friday Five )

and also, because I'm bored and I really ought to start revising for exams, I'll do the First Lines, Last Lines )

and that's me. because I'm bored. hooray for Krycek slash.
Krycek is not fluffy. In fact, X-Files and fluff just do not go together for me. I can maybe see Mulder being goofy-romantic, or someone doing that for him, but... fluff. honestly. no.

angsty, violent, screwed-up, conflicted, hate-filled, nefarious, psychotic, arrogant, caustic, sexy, rat-bastard, totally-fucking-mental - maybe. I don't like uber-evil Krycek. but... aargh. I'm reading M/K at the moment, and really. no.

as nostalgia just said, "he's innately fluffy. haven't you seen all those episodes where he kills people without a second thought?"

but that's excused because he was:
coerced into it by threats against his loved ones
protecting Mulder
getting revenge against the world for his rotten-childhood/rape/dead-lover/dead-father/whatever
defending the world
really on the good guys side
confused

so. yeah.

and this leads in beautifully to the Krycek cliches quiz ) which is very funny. but doesn't have a "look at all" so you have to sit and find them. you really do.

oh, and one other thing:
he has one arm! it happened! get used to it, people!

wait, sorry, my mistake. amputees can't be fluffy.
