So I've been reading Due South fic again - not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just something I do in phases - and somebody had an icon (damned if I can remember who or where) in which RayK looked very like Oz-off-of-BtVS. And there's the experimental hair, and the jewellery, and the instinct thing, and my version of Oz's internal monologue is not unlike my version of RayK's dialogue, and anyway it just seemed to fit. So this little scene popped up, and it goes a little something like this:

"I used to know a wolf. Uh, half-wolf. He liked donuts. You like donuts?"

Oz took a moment to just look at the detective. Frenetic, that's the word he wanted to use, and maybe... no, not intense, a synonym that fit better. Fervent, maybe. Frenetic, fervent and freakish. Oz let his smile creep out around the edges. "Yeah."

Kowalski grinned back at him, showing his teeth. "Donuts it is, then. C'mon, I'm buying."

But I'm having trouble working back from there, which is annoying. Maybe I'll just work forward and see what happens, and maybe once I have a bit more information I'll know how they met. Maybe.

Oh, but that's an awesome bit to start from. (Frenetic! And freakish!) It's gotta be some kind of case, surely? And Oz happens to be in town and gets caught up in it somehow?

Unfortunately it's in the middle of the damn fic, unless I want to do flashbacks. And the problem with a case - which, yes, it has to be, and I think Oz falls asleep and de-wolfs about ten seconds before the cops get there - is that it requires, y'know, plot, of some kind, which is effort, and also not at all what I generally do. I mean, I don't even know if it's slash or gen, for god's sake!

Yes, perfect! De-wolfing! Is he a suspect, then, or just considered an innocent bystander? And how does *Fraser* react to him? Is Fraser there?

Plot, schmot! What's a formulaic plot for DS? (Okay, so I'm not sure DS *has* formulaic plots, but it's been a while since I've properly watched the show.) Go with one of those and run with it.
